Gunfleet Sands - work starts

Gunfleet Sands - work starts

11th Feb 2008

Dong Energy has started work on the Gunfleet Sands offshore wind farm. Local residents were able to inspect plans for the project at an exhibition held in Holland-on-Sea on 15th February. Click here for detailed press release. Please note that the "installed capacity" of this site (combination of Phase I and Phase II) will be 172MW, or as much as 17x (SEVENTEEN TIMES) greater than the Earl's Hall Farm proposal. In terms of electricity it could generate 22x (TWENTY TWO TIMES) more, given the greater potential of offshore wind (an estimated 35% load factor, compared to 27% onshore). Note that the Earl's Hall Farm wind turbine project, if it is allowed to go ahead, will be within 700m of a densely populated area, and will be a potential source of noise and loss of residential amenity. The substantially larger (see above) Gunfleet Sands facility will be more than 4 miles off the coast of Clacton.
